Dear Francine,
I was caught somewhat by surprise in the recent upswing in temperature and humidity. If this is Spring, we may have a really warm Summer ahead of us. I tend to sweat more than most. My wife is pretty kind on the subject, but I would like to know what I could do to take care of sweat stains and the like here and there before I get my annual furniture cleaning. What should I do? Any recommendations?
-Mr. Sweaty Guy
Thank you so much for your question, MSG. We are always told not to sweat “the small stuff” and generally speaking, this tends to be good advice. However, if you think it is bad to see your shirts “pitted out”, you cannot imagine the discomfort and dissatisfaction from sweat stains and lingering odors on your recliners, sofas, and mattresses. This can lead to a loss of lustre in the appearance of your furniture to full-blown discomfort and disturbed sleep patterns as a result of a musky mattress.
So, what do you do?
One of the simplest and most effective methods to deal with sweat odors on any and all furniture is baking soda. Simply cover the affected furniture or stained areas with one half to one full cup of baking soda. Then, let the baking soda sit for twenty minutes. After you let it sit, vacuum the soda off of your furniture.
For sweat stains, run cool water over a cloth and wring it out. Then pat the stained area with the damp cloth for fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes of patting, let the furniture air dry, ideally with the windows open or even out on your porch or patio area.
These tips should help for any minor sweat stains you notice. For major cleanings, we recommend the Dry Foam method that can have your furniture, carpets, and mattresses looking and smelling fresh.
