Tea & Cocoa Stains

Dear Francine,

My wife and I are enjoying the fact that this winter has been relatively free of snow. So, there have not been too many extra cleaning to do, but our kids still find ways to bless our home with extra messes. Our eldest takes after me and is regularly making tea to warm up while our youngest is happiest with a mug of hot cocoa. Of course, we have seen the odd stain from these drinks on our couches and carpets. How best should I handle these stains?

Thanks for your question. Of course, there are a few ways to take care of your stains. Your options vary because they depend on a few factors relating to the drink stains in your home, i.e: the age, size, and colour of the stains.

Darker stains like those from hot cocoa are particularly difficult to remove, particularly those that have gone unnoticed and have had the time to seep into the fabric of your carpets, rugs, or furniture. For stains of this nature, we always recommend you book an appointment with the professionals. We are always happy to help you remove these stubborn stains at Sparkling Clean Carpets. We know that our efficient and proven Dry Foam Cleaning Method can remove even the toughest, nastiest stains from your home within a matter of minutes.

Tea stains are a much easier matter to clean. Your best bet is to soak up as much of the stain as possible with a cloth. When no more of the stain can be absorbed, dab the stained area with cool water until the colour from the stain has completely faded. Should traces of the stain linger, try pouring club soda on the stain and rubbing the area again with a cold cloth.

If you catch your cocoa stains early, too, you could handle them with this same simple process as cleaning tea stains.
